Dublin Airport Passenger Fees Slashed by 15% by Irish Aviation Authority

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has suggested a significant reduction in the passenger fees charged by Dublin Airport, proposing a 15% cut from the current rate of €10.39 to €8.85 per passenger for the year 2027. This recommendation comes as a result of higher-than-anticipated passenger volumes, increased commercial profits from retail, parking, and dining services, and setbacks in major infrastructure developments.

According to projections, passenger traffic at Dublin Airport is set to rise from 39.4 million in 2027 to 44.5 million by 2031. The IAA’s proposal aims to reflect these growing numbers and the accompanying revenue from non-aeronautical sources. However, the plan has been met with criticism from the airport’s operator, daa, which argues that such a reduction could hinder investment in vital infrastructure projects. These projects include new aircraft stands, terminal expansions, road improvements, and initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability.

On the other hand, the proposal has been warmly received by Ryanair, which sees potential growth opportunities. The airline indicated that the reduced charges could enable it to offer up to 2 million additional low-fare seats and to base three more aircraft in Dublin, should the proposal come into effect.

Before any final decision is made, the IAA will engage in a consultation process to gather feedback on the proposed fee reduction. This consultation will help shape the authority’s ultimate decision regarding the charges.
