The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is anticipated to be a major topic of discussion. French President Emmanuel Macron has already engaged in talks with President Trump regarding potential measures to temporarily halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Macron has emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and plans to discuss this further with President Zelenskyy.
Another significant issue on the agenda is the Gaza conflict, with efforts towards achieving a two-state solution expected to be highlighted. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin is set to join discussions aimed at supporting a lasting ceasefire and advancing peace negotiations between the involved parties.
Iran is participating in the assembly with a delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who intends to present Iran’s positions and safeguard its national interests. While U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed openness to dialogue with the Iranian delegation, no official meeting has been arranged. Rubio reiterated the U.S. commitment to preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, a longstanding objective of American foreign policy.
