Eurostar is set to enhance travel options between London and Belgium with the launch of its first direct train service to Antwerp. Starting December 14, passengers will be able to journey from London St. Pancras to Antwerp without the usual train change in Brussels, streamlining the travel experience. This new direct route will operate four times daily and is expected to significantly cut travel time, with the journey taking around 2 hours and 41 minutes.
Currently, travelers heading to Antwerp have to switch trains at Brussels-Midi, a step that the new service will eliminate, making the trip faster and more convenient. This development is anticipated to improve connectivity between the UK and Belgium, offering a more seamless travel experience for those visiting Antwerp, a city famed for its vibrant fashion scene, diamond trade, historical sites, and culinary delights.
Despite the advancement in outbound travel, the return journey from Antwerp to London will still require a transfer in Brussels. This is because Antwerp Central Station lacks the necessary UK border and customs facilities to accommodate direct services back to London. Travelers will need to plan for this transfer until such facilities are developed in the future.
